hI,

fIRST POST, darn caps lock on (XP user:D ). Using only Windows for past 10 years and imagine how nice it is to finally use Mac OSX.

How do i create shortcuts\application pointers for quick launch bar at bottom of screen? Few times i tried it but keep puting complete programs onto desktop...etc.

Can i partition my existing system disk, should i even worry about it?

How do I put audio files from my cd's onto hard drive?

I use iTunes also but this system is not on internet and want to listen to cd's without having to keep changing disk's.

I am going to add another HD, how do i initialize it and make it visible in OSX?

Thanks for any help, I am just a little lost right now.

1. Two ways to make an "alias" (that is what Apple calls shortcuts). The Dock way is to highlight the application you want and drag it to the Dock. The second way is to actually make an "alias" (i.e. shortcut) by high lighting the application and then go to the finder's menu 'File->Make Alias' (or right click the application and follow the 'Make Alias link)).

2. You really don't have to worry about it on OS X. It is actually better if you don't make partitions. The only time you should partition OS X is when you install Windows using "BootCamp" on Intel Macs. However the only partition program I know of is a shareware application called iPartition.

3. Several different ways. The most popular is to use iTunes. The important thing to remember in iTunes is setting up the import preference in iTunes to what you want. Also music/video files fill up hard drives very quickly. So Try to learn how to keep you music/video collection on an external hard drive.

4. Use your Macs manual to add another hard drive. Also once you buy a hard drive an install it use /Applications/Utilties/Disk Utility and format (because most hard drives are pre-formatted for Windows) it for Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It then will popup on you Desktop.

Now I urge you to read up on using OPS X to ease your transition. I highly recommend the book Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition. You won't regret it and you can get the book at most books sellers.
