Typing in Different language

I'd like to be able to type a letter in Italian and ensure I get all the correct character, does anyone know how I can do this and also, would I get an Italian spell checking working as well?

There may be an easier way than this, but this is what I've done so I can type in different languages/alphabets.

Go into the System Preferences.
Click on the International control panel.
Click the Input Menu tab.
Select all the languages you want to be able to type in.
Once there's 2 or more languages selected, a menu should appear to the right of the Help Menu at the top of the screen that allows you to select which language to type in.

Depending on the languages you selected, there should be an option to show the character palette, and you can use that to type in characters, or learn which keys on your keyboard do what for the new language.
 
also choose the GAMMA charachter map. that has all letters.

where do u need the italian spell check??? e.g. i have all browsers but IE in english and thus if i write in italian it underlines everything = i diabled all them... that is anyway something that should be in the app. if u want the spellcheck in the browrser, u need to get a browser in italian...

They also mentioned at the Apple dev conference that they were going to include dynamic language recognition, so if you started typing a letter in French it would realise it was French on its own.

I don't have Jag yet, so I don't know if this is implemented or planned.
 
no it does not recognise the language!!!!

so for me it's a pain in the apple because either i type in itlaian or english or spanish.. or in dialect. if there would be that feature and any word i use would not be in its official dictionaries all i'd see would be just red underlining. that's why i never use it either in offices .. = my vocabulary is not what the programmes vocabulary is, and unless they attach the teach - feature i won't use it.

but even with that, i'm not sure it'll understand in what language are the words in dialec.t :(
