typing problem, carriage returns

There's a problem I've been having with my ibook g4, mac os x 10.3.7 . Whenever I'm typing, in the middle of a sentence it'll start putting carriage returns on the page, it'll keep placing returns until I press a key (while, it's doing this, it also continually beeps) It's impossible to type while it's doing this.

If anybody can tell me how to fix this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks
 
Are any of the keys sticking? What kind of text are you typing (example) and what program are you using? Do you have any third-party utilities enabled that might be interfering?
 
And did anything happen to it that might have damaged the keyboard, such as a drop or a spill? It sounds very much like the return key is sticking a bit.

it happens in every program, safari, firefox, xcode, terminal..

Hardware or software? Sometimes I use a usb mouse, but the problem still occurs, when it isn't plugged in.

And did anything happen to it that might have damaged the keyboard, such as a drop or a spill? It sounds very much like the return key is sticking a bit.

No, I've been very careful with it. I've only had it for about a month, the problem has been occurring since I got it, it didn't have to do any large amounts of typing until yesterday, so that's why I didn't really pay much attention to it.
 
New machine, call Apple for warranty repair. Sounds like the keyboard is bad.
 
Sometimes I get a similar problem, not CR , but normal chars, but my 4 year old keyboard is filed with lint.. :)
 
Mine does it infrequently with the space bar. Mostly on this site (lots of typing on this site). I noticed it around 10.3.6 or 10.3.7.

I'm thinking it's my keyboard (it's old), not the software... but then again, it's weird.
