Hi, i'm new to these forums, so i hope this is the correct section to be posting in.

I have a internal PC hardrive (with a working install of XP) mounted via a external USB 2.0 bridge to my g4 with 10.4.5. The HD is mounted and the machine has no problem copying files off the hard drive, but whenever i try to copy onto the hard drive i get a message (attached JPEG) saying

The item 'ANYTHING' could not be moved because "Untitled" cannot be modified. "Untitled" is the HD in question

Privledges in Disk Utility are greyed out...
The HD is not locked (as far as i know) when booting in Windows.

Also, if i use Disk Utility to make a disk image of the Windows HD (since it is readable), will i then be able to use this disk image to create a bootable copy of this HD?

Any suggestions?

My guess is that the PC hard drive is formatted as NTFS, which is read-only under Mac OS X.

You won't be able to do anything but copy data off of the drive until you reformat it as FAT32 (if you wish it to remain a "PC" format -- Mac OS X can read and write FAT32) or HFS+ (if you wish it to be Mac-only).

I believe that you can make a bootable copy of the Windows hard drive, but I'm not absolutely sure. I don't see why not -- as far as I know, Windows is similar to Mac OS 9, where you could simply copy the contents of the drive onto a new drive and it would be perfectly bootable... but just to reiterate, I'm not sure.

When you format a drive under FAT32, what's the maximum size that OSX and XP will be able to recognise? 64MB seems to ring a bell but I'm not sure.
