Unable to find driver (MacBook)

I'm getting this error message: 'panic(cpu 0 caller OX0039C213): Unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI", overlaid on the kernel panic screen at startup.

I can't reboot into safe mode. In single user mode and verbose mode, the same error message appears and I can't type anything after it does.

This happened after I HAD a kernel panel, booted into safe mode, uninstalled recently installed applications (norton antivirus and stuffit) and deleted items from library/startupitems.
i then restarted to see if it would work normally, but now i can't even boot into safe mode.

i'm posting all of this from the windows partition of my macbook, which works fine.

HELP! my macbook is (sigh) not even 2 months old.

I think you need to start paying more attention to those Mac commercials; Macs don't crash. :D

If you're all OK on the windows side, there's a good chance that it's just straight software corruption and that a reinstall of Mac OS will fix things.

Don't use Norton. It causes too many problems.

Because windows is working, you probably have a software issue. Try a re-install. If that does not work, you might have to bring it in. It's still covered by your 1 year complimentary support.

BootCamp is still beta, so you should not have critical data on a computer that uses it. It's possible that it caused your problem.

thanks for the reply. i'll try a reinstall - the problem is complicated by the fact that i'm in central europe at the moment, and didn't think to bring my mac os cds along. so, i'll wait for those to arrive by mail. it sucks that there are no apple stores closer than london.

does a reinstall of mac os preserve your files? what about the programs installed, will i have to reinstall photoshop and friends again? [i.e. list of cds to tell my family to send me. ugh!]

In Europe, there are other stores besides the Apple Store in London which are able to give you support. I, for example, don't drive 1500km to London to have my hardware serviced... (?!)

Sorry, I don't read a lot of German, but appears to have some contact phone numbers. You should be able to discover a more local Apple service store if you call and ask about that.
