Unexplained loss of disk space

Hello to all,

Last week I had about 178GB free on my MBP.

Since then, I converted 4 programmes I recorded from the BBC to DVD and installed two updates: iTunes and a system update, both of which were in the double digits of MBs.

I have since deleted the files I used to create the DVDs (and the DVDs themselves), but am surprised to see that I only have about 175GB left free.

Surely those two updates couldn't have expanded into 3 gig worth of material, could they?

Has iDVD hidden something somewhere that I don't know about that I should be deleting? All I've done is delete the DVD projects and the starting files in each case.

Thanks in advance for your help.

MisterMe,

I deleted the files and then emptied the bin.

Brandon,

Wow! I hope it doesn't come to that!

Thanks,

Working with videos and DVD video disk images can take up substantial amounts of space on your hard drive. If you have saved intermediate copies of video files, then you have to expect that space will be required for those video files. When you burn a DVD, the space used for temp files will be at least the size of the DVD itself. The temp files will usually be cleared off by logging out of your user, or restarting your Mac.

Hi DeltaMac,

I've deleted all associated files, logged out and back in, but the mystery loss of disk space still persists.

Any suggestions of where to look for whatever is taking up this space?

Thanks.
