uninstalling software

Ztupid question,maybe...but how do i, generally speaking, uninstall a program? Just trashing the folder containing the program of should i remove other stuff from spooky places? And if so, how do i find/recognize the elements belonging to the program?

Some software comes with specific uninstallers, but most Mac software, simply trashing the app, or the entire app's folder does it all. You may have some leftover items, pref files, docs, but generally those just waste space. Occasionally an app will leave some RAM wasting stuff in system startup, but hopefully an uninstaller will be provided. There's no registry here, thank Apple for that!
You can do a search by the name of the App, see what turns up. Deleting any suspects can be done right from the found list.

Some applications come with an uninstaller, but 99% of programs just need to be put in the trash. The ones without an installer might have some stuff in other places, but those hardly take up 10 megabytes, so they shouldn't matter much.

Check /Library/Application Support/appname for the folder. Also try ~/Library/Application Support/appname

Ahh, registry free. Gotta love that mac :D

Indeed delta. I need to type faster :p.

27, you can believe us both, as we said pretty much the same thing. Searching for the app name may turn up more stuff, by most of the extras will be in the pathnames I provided.

Happy deleting.

Leaving components of an application's installation on your drive, such as system files or preferences, will do nothing to your computer. All you really have to do is remove the application's icon or folder; you can take out the rest of the stuff if you really want to and you know what you're doing, but it's not necessary.
