Upgrade Ibook G4 From Os 10.37 to 10.38

Hello. I just bought a used mac ibook g4 1.33 ghz on e-bay. I cleaned the whole think up & re-installed OS 10.35 original panther operating sys. I'm trying to upgrade it to 10.39....got as far as 10.37.......when I try 10.38, it says: You cannot install this software on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update. What can I do???? Thank for you're help.

You don't need to upgrade a tiny step at a time to get to 10.3.9
Download the Combined updater, which will update any version of 10.3.x to 10.3.9 in one install. here it is - http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
