Upgrade to Snow Leopard keeping Tiger

Hello,

I tried to find some info about this by doing some googling with no success, so I'm hoping somebody could help me with this.

So far I've been using Tiger but recently I bought the Snow Leopard. I'm using the system for my work so it's very important to have a working system available. At the moment I have three hard disks, the main HD (with Tiger installed), my work HD (=music files) and a 1Tb extrnal FW drive with different partitions. I've made a CCC backup of the system disc and also backed up all my work files.

What I'd like to do is install the Snow Leopard using the upgrade (or archive) option so that I won't need to reinstall every single application. However, I'd also like to keep the old Tiger so I could also use it if needed. Is this possible and how? I should install Snow Leopard to my work HD or the extrnal Firewire drive, right? I'd be easy to do a fresh install (pr whatever it is called) of Snow Leopard to another hard drive but if I want to do the upgrade to another hard drive I get more confused.

Or if I make a fresh install to "clean the system" is there a way to copy the applications, system files etc. from Tiger?

I'm really hoping someone could share some info, 'cause I'd finally have some time to get the installation done now. Thank you very much!!

Even a short reply would be muchly appreciated so I could go on installing snow leopard. I'm sorry to beg like this but you know... :)

Well if you CCC'd your drive, can you boot from this clone? Also this is an Intel Mac too, right?

One thing you should be aware is since you use this Mac for work is to compare your Tiger software with the web site Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Compatibility List wiki. This way you can make sure your essential software can run in Snow Leopard.

Lastly going from Tiger to Snow Leopard you will have to do a FULL install. The Upgrade disk is for Leopard to Snow Leopard. Most applications for Tiger will NOT run in Snow Leopard.

Thank you very much for your reply Satcomer! I bought a Snow Leopard family pack and have already upgraded my laptop, in that case the upgrde worked well and no full install was needed. Almost all of the applications worked perfectly also, but my desktop has a lot more applications so we'll see about those. Thanks!

I think you've answered my question as well;l I was about to post a query, "Can I go from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard without doing the full install first."

So, the answer is no, yes? :-)

I have found, in many cases regarding software, that the Snow Leopard upgrade has severely hampered my ability to use old software, especially anything that I had with my Power PC Mac...

And everything works fine....up to 10.4.11. But....the problem of course is I need some of the new bells and whistles with 10.5.X...and more....

Sigh. :-)
