It is a well know secret the Leopard "Upgrade path" is broken at best. You are better off re-installing Leopard using the Archive & Install way. This way you can clear out the old code that is slowing you down.

To do an Archive and Install follow these steps:

1. Backup your current system!
2. Follow the instructions provide by Apple called Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature
3. Once the Archive & Install is finished DOWNLOAD the 10.5.2 Combo update to go straight to 10.5.2 without download several dozen updates.
4. After the Combo update is finished run Software Update for the few remaining updates.
5. Then look in your system for a folder called something like "Previous System Folder" (or something like that) to get you data out that you want to keep.
6. Then delete the rest of the Previous System Folder that you no longer need.

It is very important that you update all you older programs with the latest Leopard version of those programs.

After all this download a maintenance program like Yasu or Maintenance and run the cleaning/maintenance routines about every three or four weeks to keep your Mac running soothly.

Doing all this way should have the best results for you. Good luck.
