US/Europe Incompatability?

If I purchased Tiger (for a G4 Tower) in the US, does anyone know if I would I be able to install it on my G4 here in Europe?
 
Yep. Could still install it in Danish or Korean or whatever you want rhisiart ;) it's the same contents on teh DVD.

You could also purchase Apple hardware (iPods, other accessories, portables, desktops) and even those would be compatible (just needing a non-converting adapter for outlet).
 
Yep. No problem at all. Unless you're talking about installing it on _two_ machines. Then you have a legal problem. Technically, the retail version of OS X is the same. (Well, there are 10.4.0, 10.4.3 and 10.4.6 versions, the latter ones having green stickers about that fact... Shouldn't matter for a G4, though. You'll update through SU or combo updaters as soon as 10.4.7 will be out, anyway...)
 
OK, I ought to spill the beans.

I purchased Tiger installation DVDs from a US retailer on eBay. Being a little naive, I imagined that they would be the real McCoy. However, I now suspect that the DVDs are, to use British vernacular, a bit dodgy.

Basically, they won't install. A message comes up saying that the software cannot be installed on this computer, even though they are specific to the hardware I own.

We live and learn.
 
Well, then it seems to have been the "OEM" version, i.e. the preinstalled one... And we've heard a looooooooot of reports that Apple has changed the way the software checks whether it's being run on the right computer. While I don't think it's down to the exact machine's serial number, it could very well be that Apple changed something on the DVD to include at least _part_ of the serial number, i.e. they might have done one DVD for, say, 1000 or 10000 machines.
So: Go and buy the retail version.
However: I find it hard to believe that either a G4 PowerMac or an iBook G4/900 ever came with Tiger pre-installed... So I guess it's definitely not "specific to the hardware you own"...
 
fryke you are right. If you goto apple's site and do a look up on the power Macs G4 all but one came with OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.2.8 installed on them. The only one that had OS X 10.3 only on it is the MDD one. same goes for the PowerBooks of that same time, and the iBooks too.

Well all's fair in love and war .. and eBay. I don't mind getting burnt for something I paid very little for. I was being naive though.
