USB 2.0 HDD caddy problems

I'm having trouble with a USB 2.0 HDD caddy that i am using that my brother used to use. He had it connected to his Windows PC and he never had problems with it but it seems to be freezing when using it on my iBook.
Any ideas why it would do this?
I want to store all my iTunes songs on the HDD but with it freezing i can't.

Is this normally a problem?

No, that sounds about right... what exactly do you mean by "freezing?" Does it freeze if you try and copy over any files, or just large amounts of files?

Well, when i copy over files it goes fine for about a minute or two then just complely stops and whenever i try to rip a song to the drive with iTunes it gets to the end of the first track (Any CD) and just completely stops. iTunes locks up and i have to hard reset my iBook because OSX wont shut down.

It's been suggested by some friends i know that i purchase a Firewire caddy instead of using my USB 2.0 one. Does this seem right to you?

Thanks for the help! :)

Well, since it's a Mac, USB2 or FireWire should work just fine... but, with a FireWire enclosure, you'll get better transfer rates, and, I'm hoping, increased compatibility. It's worth a try!

I'll post the results when my new enclosure gets here.
I've ordered an Icy Box USB and Firewire one. Can't go wrong really! :)
Thanks for all the help!
