USB to PS/2 and emacs

Hi all!

A friend of mine is using MacOS X on an eMac. He wanted a two button mouse for games so I gave him one, along with a USB to PS/2 adapter which won't work. All I have read says this should be reasonably pnp, but it won't work for us. Is there anything specific we should know? I'm OK with nix and command line if necessary.

What mouse is it? What exactly won't work about it -- the entire mouse or just things like right-clicking?

You can try USB Overdrive, which is 3rd party USB device software:

It's a standard-issue Compaq two-button mouse with no wheel. Nothing fancy. No drivers expected by any Linux or Windowze I've tried it on. The USB to PS/2 switch is a Belkin affair.
The problem is that nothing about the mouse works. I'll try the overdrive drivers you mentioned and see if that goes well. Any other solutions are welcome in case it doesn't

Did it work under windows and linux via USB or just as PS/2. If it is a standard USB mouse it should just work. No USB overdrive should be needed. What was the Linux configuration precisely?
