I was deleting files... How many requests start that way? My password stopped working. I restarted the computer and got the "Welcome to OS X Video." Now my user name does not show up on the user list. It does not show up in Accounts. The folder for the user is still there in the User folder. How do I re-activate my account. I have a new admin user established. I called Apple and they said it was possible with the use of the install disk. Please help!!!!

What account did you use to access the machine enough to verify the folder for the user is still there?

Peace...

You have a new admin account set up. Is this to replace the account you lost?

The folder for the user is still there in the User folder.

Copy the contents from the User folder you have found for the lost account (Documents, Pictures Desktop etc) into the corresponding folders of the new admin account.

If you don't wish to use the new admin account to hold these contents, create yet another account and copy the contents from the User folder you have found for the lost account (Documents, Pictures Desktop etc) into the corresponding folders of the account you wish to use.
This sounds very complicated when I read it, but it shouldn't be. If anyone can paraphrase it in the interests of simplicity, please feel free.

There's a config file that, when thrown away, tells your Mac that it's never been booted before, thus trying to take you through setup again. (I don't remember what it's called) For future reference, you should NEVER throw away files in your Library that you aren't familiar with. NEVER.
