Using Dreamweaver to build websites

I would like to be able to build and maintain a website for my financially strapped public library as a service to them and then build a site for my genealogy. When I taught I developed our school's first website using Adobe PageMill about 12 years ago. I have forgotten most everything I knew.

I recently updated my Mac OSX version to 10.4.11. The rest of my profile is the same as shown.

I have been looking into the Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and I have several questions. First, is this a good choice? Should I also purchase Fireworks CS3 and Contribute CS3 to make the job easier? (Or do I really need everything included in the Adobe CS3 Web Standard package?) Will my present computer system be able to handle this software? Do I need to upgrade my memory?

Also, should I consider downloading PageSpinner to work with in addition to Dreamweaver or will I be confusing myself more?

I have picked out some instruction books on developing websites and using Dreamweaver and I catch on to using software quickly, but I'm not sure about my hardware. I could use some advice.

Just use Dreamweaver. Unless you have an entire team working with you you won't need Contribute. If you have photoshop you won't need Fireworks. Just use Illustrator and PS.

Dreamweaver is a good WYSIWYG program and it even has templates to get you started that use CSS files so you can make a nice centered layout (like this site is) with a minimum of fuss.

PageSpinner will confuse you more. Dreamweaver is pretty much an all-in-one app; it even does ASP and some Javascript! Though I go to www.dynamicdrive.com for all my javascript needs.

Thank you for clearing up my confusion concerning Dreamweaver and the software they package with it. I want to do a nice job for our local library and I am eager to re-learn designing websites in a more modern way, but, since it's pro bono, I don't want to spend a fortune on software I probably won't need. Your advice was just what I needed. I'll order Dreamweaver today.

Strange how that website is a direct rip-off of godaddy.com's website -- even including identical banners and navigation menus.

Is it affiliated with godaddy.com?

I am extremely skeptical about that website you linked to, considering your post looks and smells like spam. If it's not spam, we would love for you to elaborate on how that service differs from godaddy.com and what the benefits of using it are.

A very useful Vector graphics programme is VectorDesigner. It's relatively inexpensive compared with Illustrator and has very good instruction videos.

A free alternative to Dreamweaver is NVu, however Dreamweaver is the best if your budget permits.

I am extremely skeptical about that website you linked to,

You should be, in checking further is belongs to Securepaynet. There is no physical address or person to contact, only a phone number in Arizona that is not toll free. When you click on FAQ it takes you to a totally different site.
