Using FireFox with IE sites

Hello! I want to use FireFox with a site that is secure https://. When I visit the site a popup window tells me that I am using Mozilla 6.0 and that I must used IE 5.5 or higher or Netscape 4 or higher. I've experimented with changing the User Agent to IE and Netscape but to no avail. One other thing, I know that the secure site uses an old version of Java. Any suggestions?

You can't really do anything about how a site is set up, unless you are designing/maintaining a site.
Some browsers are just not going to work on some sites. Try Mozilla, or try the actual Netscape browser. Have you tried Camino - it works sometimes where FireFox does not. Have you tried Safari at your chosen site? Do YOU have the latest update for Java installed?
You may also be trying for a site that is using some Windows-specific Java Script, and you may be out of luck if you're not actually running Windows...

there is an extention for firefox (on windoze at least) that adds the option of veiwing a page in IE to the right click menu. its called ieveiw. might want to check it out.

you could also download an extension to change the User Agent (i think it's called UserAgent Switcher) to make sites think you're using IE. often sites don't NEED IE at all.

Sounds like Dubrow has already tried changing User Agent, and with no help. Some sites need Windows, and you must be running Windows for the site to work because of Windows-specific Java Script, for example. Changing the user agent doesn't solve the issue, in this case.
