Using iPod on Lombard

I've recently bought a 20GB iPod Photo and just found out that it requires a USB 2.0 connection which needs OS X 10.3.4 to operate.

I'm running 10.2.8 and have no FireWire capabilities on the '00 Lombard I'm using.

Can I still use the iPod despite having the older USB ports or have I bought something I cannot use? The Apple store states that USB 2.0 is only recommended, not required. I have no problems with a slower transfer speed.

Much, much, much slower transfer speed -- but it should work.

I don't know if the Lombard USB ports will supply enough power to charge the iPod, though. If not, you might want to think about an AC adaptor purchase as well, since the iPods don't come with them anymore.
 
Thanks for the reply but the Apple site states that USB 1.1 will NOT work with the colour screen iPod. I have 7 days to return the iPod and I have also bought a mini for my wife which apparently needs USB 2.0 as well.

I can't check if the iPod works as it is mean't to be a Christmas gift which I'm not allowed to open yet!

Looks like both will be going back and a couple of nanos ordered instead.
