Video in

What is the best (cheapest) device to use to get video into my Mac G4/Dual 1.0Ghz MDD? I want to get all my old VCR tapes onto DVD before they are no good anymore. I have seen some USB/Firewire devices but compatability worries me. Does OS X have software that will see the device?

I have had the Dazzle AV bridge for a few years and it works very nice. I think it was about $200. A little steep maybe, but it has almost any in and our connection you will ever need (composite, firewire, S-Video). Anyone remember in 1993 the Mac Quadra 660AV? It came standard with S-Video and composite video in and out! My how we have progressed!

Well, there is a device that imports MPEG-2 that can be put into iDVD. It also does TV and TV recording. It is made by Elgato.
