Video mode not supported (urgent)

Hi,

a friend has a problem with a LCD monitor and his G4 (800mhz, 10.3.x), when he boots up all he gets is a 'video mode not supported' message.

he has no other monitors to hook up to the g4, and from searching the net it could be a number of things:

1. dvi cable (unlikely as it was working fine when hooked up to a powerbook g4)
2. monitor (see point 1!)
3. the video card is trying to run at an unsupport refresh rate/resolution

I think it's 3, however I'm not there and I'm having to talk this through on the phone.

Is there any way of reseting the video settings, maybe from a safe boot or something?

we're both pretty tech savy (ie not newbies!)

any ideas?

thanks!

jben
ps: we have only a couple of hours to sort this out!

thanks bobw, I'm not sure if he has a FW cable where he is, and if he did, is it easy (ie, with the GUI) to change those settings via TWDM?

I think I may have another solution, which is to zap the PRAM, the default setting should be compatible.

what do you think?

thanks,

jben

I've never tried to change settings such as that whilst in FTDM, is it easy, or are there some instructions online somewhere?

thanks again,

jb

Once in FTDM, navigate System/Library/PreferencePanes and double click the Displays.prefPane. It should open and you can set it.
