Viewing Permissions on Shared Network

I am helping our IT guy go through permission settings for folders and files on a shared network. I am using a mac, and the rest of the company uses Windows, so I am on my own in terms of figuring out the differences in interface. I know you can right click the folder icon and view the users who have permission to read/write each folder. Is that possible on a mac? How do you do that? Many thanks!!

What Mac are you using and what version of OS X are you using? What Windows domain is running? Plus are you talking about sharing files on the Mac or the shared files on the windows XP/Vista boxes or a NAS box?

Also, it depends on how the files are shared to the Mac computers: are you connecting via SMB, or do you have AFP installed on the server and the Mac computers are connecting via AFP?

If SMB, and the Macs authenticate via Active Directory, then you'll want to look at the share's permissions on the server itself (as I don't think it would be wise to adjust AD permissions via a "Get Info" on the Mac). If AFP, I would also suggest making any permissions changes on the server itself through the Active Directory Users & Groups or the File Server snap-in. Permissions for AFP shares can definitely be viewed via "Get Info" on the Mac, though.
