Volume Controls on Keyboard Stops Working

Here's an odd one.... just upgraded to a fancy new 20" Intel iMac. Every so often, no rhyme/reason (apparently) the volume controls on the keyboard stop working. Not the whole keyboard, just the volume up/down & mute.

Oddly, this is repaired by unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in.

Yes, the keyboard is connected directly to the Mac.

Any thoughts?

count yourself lucky! the keyboard on my intel 20" imac keeps stopping every couple of hours and thats all the keys. I read that replacing the keyboard with one from a G5 system fixes the problem. Bad USB hub in the latest keyboards that ship with intel models.
