Want to know about defragmenting/optimizing?

As I'm using a portable, cron-jobs are a no-go for me. ;-) But I tend _not_ to forget to backup at least once a week, which is just fine.

I installed Lindows on my laptop yesterday, that gave me the opportunity to optimize my C+D partitions now XP runs like a dream-mm! ( well not as fast as os x :p )

sorry to sound noob... but fryke, when backing up the applications folder, all the applications are contained in that folder. so therefore, there should be no problems just dropping the folder into the newly reinstalled macosx. or would there be - what about things like serial codes/registration/installations? also, how much of the ~user~/ folder is needed? or is it all of it?
(i have limited space on my FW drive as it's full of music :p)

woah just realised this hasn't been updated since feb 2004.... and it's almost completely of topic. sorry folks!
