Want to remove Game Center

I just upgraded the OS on my iPhone 4 and now find I have an annoying app called Game Center.

I don't play games and would like to remove this, but so far have found no way to do so.

Can someone advise of a safe and reliable way to dump this piece of malware?

Thanks,

Bowjest

Hi Diablo,

Alas, after much further research you are correct. Apple, in its wisdom, has seen fit to foist an app on users without giving them the choice to opt out.

To be honest, a pretty sh*tty thing to do. I bought the phone for my use, not to be a guinea pig for Apple's gaming field tests. Clearly not everyone who owns an iPhone is a twenty-something who lives to play mindless games.

App has been duly shoved to the back of my screens and hopefully a future update will allow users to decide for themselves what they install or don't install on their phones.

Thanks for your help.

Funny that more people don't complain about the inability to remove the Weather app, the Stocks app, the Camera app, the Photos app, the iTunes app, or any of the other 12 to 16 apps that Apple prevents users from removing.

It's only Game Center that seems to be ticking people off. Games really seem to get under people's skin for some reason.

The frustration is understood, though.

Hi Diablo,

I can't speak for others, but for me it's like buying a car: you shop around, find one that has what you're looking for, but it will, of course, have features you don't need (or maybe even want), but they're pre-loaded, so that's that.

But if you then take the car in for a full service and find that the garage has super-glued a shaking hoola girl to the dashboard without asking you if you wanted a shaking hoola girl, you'd be a bit hacked off. Particularly if the attitude from the mechanic was, "Well, I didn't charge you for it and if you don't like it, just ignore it - it doesn't stop you from driving the car".

But that's just me. :)

Understood.

To some, Game Center is the heated seat package that didn't cost extra and comes in useful; to others, it's the hula girl.

Game Center/Centre is on page 6 of my apps along with a few other useless ones like Stocks and Weather.....

That's kind of my point -- everyone has different opinions on the apps. Weather and Stocks are on my home screen, as they get daily use. Useless to some, priceless to others.
