Way to mass rename songs?

Hey, basically, I have a TON of songs with the same prefix, the name of the album. Is there a way to remove this prefix, easily?

For example, I copied the Album "American Idiot" by Greenday, from my friend. I also borrowed a lot more, and I think they'll suffer the same problem. Basically, somehow, I have the title "American_Idiot_Album_2004_American_Idiot". Is there a script or so to remove "American_Idiot_2004_"?

Aside from the fact that it's illegal to be copying or "borrowing" such files, there are plenty of shareware apps for renaming files. Just do a search for "file rename" at versiontracker.com.

haven't used either much, so don't know if they'll cut the mustard from what you're trying to do. worth a try I guess.

if you're talking about the iTunes title - you're talking about changing the ID3 tags (metadata), not explicit file names, which makes things trickier.

I use R-Name for renaming filenames. Works pretty fine and it's freeware.

MP3Rage, available on versiontracker.com, will let you rename your MP3 files according to the ID3 data. Very useful.
