Web Browser Connectivity Issues

Good day!

I've just downloaded the latest Opera for Mac (Intel) but somehow I cannot connect it to the Internet. I uninstalled and re-installed it about twice already, still it won't connect. So I tried Stainless web browser. It didn't connect neither, saying "Connection Error: Can't Connect to Host" at the bottom. So I tried Flock for Mac, and, not to my surprise, it didn't connect as well. Safari and Firefox on the other hand still connects without problems. All of the apps are up-to-date and I'm running on an Intel Mac with 10.5.7 installed.

I hope someone can help me. T_T

Check in the preferences of each of the web browsers that do work for any proxy connection information. In Firefox, this would be under Advanced > Network > Settings...

Are you running any firewall on OS X or in a router? What version of OS x running on what Mac are you running?

I'm not running on any firewall since it's my macbook at home. I'm not on any router, it's connected directly to a modem.

Here's what my macbook has:
-1.83 GHz Intel Dual Core Macbook (White)
- 2 GB RAM
- Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.7)*

*Note: Here's what I have observed. This happened when I updated my from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7. Before 10.5.7, I was able to run Opera and Flock when I was on 10.5.0 to 10.5.4. After the 5.4 update, I didn't use Opera or Flock for web browsing, until today.

Follow up question: Could it be because of the latest Leo update?

Let's see if something is messed up in your profile. Open System Preferences->Accounts and make a new Test account. Then boot into that to see if it works there.

Once you are done testing let us know if they worked in the Test account. This way we can tell if it is system wide or profile wide.

Lastly once testing is done you can delete the Test account to save hard drive space.
