Something weird happened to my Powerbook G4 Gigabit, when I tried to start it:
The computer booted up normally to Finder(clean install of 10.2 just 2 days ago) and worked fine for about 5 sec(can do anything normally) and then crashed - i can still see the screen move to mouse(although it skipps, not fluent anymore), I cant select anything, all sysstem keys(sound, brightness, eject) doesn't work, can't click on the menus, just like the keyboard has been locked out by something(only key that works - thanks to the light, that turns on is CAPS; not sure though because I can't type). At this point the only choice I have it to hold power button for 5 sec and then the computer reboots into the same state.
I tried removing battery/ working on Ac; reseting P-Ram using button, notheing works. Any ideas?
Thanks

That helped in thwe sense that i can now ftp my data back to my computer, check disk didn't help; still the sampe problem, i was wondering if having only 190 MB of free space is causing it? maybe the unfinished installation of Media player(Microsoft got me :0( - it terminated with error..
I'm puzzled why is the system crashing after 5 sec of working normally, some driver that is loading in the backgroung is causing it to crach, is there a way to restart gui in "safe mode" or recover system without reinstallation?
Thanks

Try booting holding the shift key down. Not exactly 'safe' mode, but will keep startup items from starting, might help. let's see, 190 MB free space, with 1 GB of RAM.....seems real close. maybe...temporarily remove 512 MB RAM. see if you can run long enough to make more space on your HD. I've always used a rule of thumb to have more than 10% free space on any HD. Time to upsize or transfer files!! How much space does 1 GB RAM need for swap files? 10% on your HD is 4.8 GB, think about it.
