What do I need to backup before a major HD upgrade

My HD has severe problems and I need to backup as much as I can (in FWTDM) before I send it to Apple for fixing. I'd like to backup up my profile as much as I can, bookmarks, addresses, mail, etc - as well as my normal docs - but I don't know where to start. Have looked around the web for a definitive list - but cant find anything to help.

Buy a Firewire drive (with a drive larger than your Internal hard drive) and use the free/donationware cloning program Carbon Copy Cloner. This way you can have an exact copy of you system that is bootable. Plus make a new account calling it Test or something and remember to De-Authorize your iTunes computer account (in iTunes) in case they have to replace the internal drive or logic board. You can always Re-Authorize iTunes when you get the Mac back.
