What's "private" folder?

I used this program WhatSize to see what's there on the hard drive and what size it is.
It came up with this "private" folder of 1.10 GB
but I can't locate it anywhere.
Does anyone know what that is?
Cheers

I am not sure which folder that is, but, since Mac OSX is based on Unix, some folders are hidden by design. That folder might be a cache for spotlight etc and the application doesn't know it's name (it cannot read it)but it know's it size.

You can use another myriad of products to allow you to view hidden folders and go from there.

Sorry...
I don't know what I was thinking...
the private folder contains subfolders - tmp being one of them.. the tmp folder may contain well, temp files, which you can delete if they are stranded. you might have to login as root to do so, but YOU NEED TO KEEP the private folder and it's sub folders.

Sounds like there are numerous TMP files under the tmp folder.. using your tool , drill down under private and take a look at the tmp folder - mine is 300 megs
