Why is the on/off switch on my 17 flat panel monitor flashing?

Quicksilver G4 with the original 17 inch flat panel LCD screen.

This screen has an on/off touch button at the bottom right corner. This evening it had been left on standby by my wife for about half an hour. The Firefox update screen was left for me to click and upgrade.

I found the monitor on/off button flashing 3 times followed by a 5 second gap followed by three flashes etc.etc.

Installed Firefox and it's still doing it.

Restarted and it's still flashing.

Switch still works as an on/of switch.

What does it mean? I've never seen this in the 4 years we've had the machine.....

Searched this board. Searched Help. Can't find a reference.

Only programs open are Finder, Dashboard and Safari.

As soon as I posted, I found the answer. Searched on display instead of monitor!!

Short, short, long flash is a backlight error

And, yes it's a bit dim at the bottom.............

Three flashes? According to this Apple Knowledge document three flashes means bad RAM.

read the post - this is a display, not a computer. The flashing indicates a backlight error.
