Will my display loose the benefit?

If I buy a DVI monitor splitter, and the max resolution is 1600 x 1200, and my 20" Cinema Display is 1680 x 1250, will I loose resolution, and will the splitter cap the 20" display to 1600 x 1200?

um. the 20" is actually 1680x1050.

Most likely, unless the 20" supports 1600x1200, you'll just get a blank screen.

Short answer: yes, if the max resolution of something is 1600x1200, then it will not do 1680x1050/1250/whatever.
