Windows Media Player doesn't work with Tiger?

I did an Archive / Install / copy users & network settings when I upgraded to Tiger. Windows Media Player crashes as soon as it launches. I tried reinstalling with no success.

Is WMP incompatible with Tiger or is something wrong with my system?

Seeing on Versiontracker that the Windows Media Player is dated there from 2003... chances are that it is not compatible with Tiger

'Microsoft Media Player' [MMP] v. 9.0.0 (3307) works flawlessly with MacOS X 10.4.0 [Tiger].

Try:
01 Drag the 'com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist' file from your '~/Library/Preferences/' folder to your 'Desktop', and then launching MMP. If MMP then works - trash the 'Desktop' based '.plist' file. If MMP still fails to launch, continue to step 02.
02: Launch Apples' 'Disk Utility' ['/Applications/Utilities'], and run 'Repair Disk Permissions', and try launching MMP. If MMP still fails to launch - I have no further recommendations, currently.

Now that you actually reinstalled it once, does it maybe work under a completely new user account (just for testing)?

I wanted to test this but couldn't because my account prefs pane was broken. (check here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@406.EkKPa3WKV8D.4@.68ae8191)

I finally fixed that and created a test user - WMP launches fine, no problem.

As was previously stated, I trashed my WMP prefs file and repaired permissions, so what the heck could the problem be?

Go microsoft. ARGH!

Fahrvergnuugen, I think the problem lies on another file but the plist. There must be some more preference-files spread. Remember, it's still microsoft we are talking about. How about a user migration just for WMP?
Convert, it was not so much the need for tiger or the pleasure to mess with the migration that led me to tiger, but not being able to take part to the discussions on macosx.com. Lately all you can read is somehow related to tiger.. Although I don't see any huge improvements, I don't regret this step.

I removed the "Windows Media Player Prefs" file from my user library.
After that WMP seems happy enough. Prior that I had deleted the com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist as Barhar suggested.

It also worked for me too. However, it crashes if I try one of the skins built in. If I use the default look, it work good. Looks like it needs updating.
