WordX and Type Reunion

It's distressing that Microsoft's WORD-X does not recognize Adobe's Type Reunion. Is there any other way to create heirarchical font menus in WORD-X?

Cocoa and Carbon are not the problem. Adobe Type Reunion seems to work with all apps there. Older versions of Word recognize ATR, too; it's just WordX that won't cooperate.

I run InDesign on OSX, and TypeReunion is recognized there. I'll see if Excel will recognize it, but I suspect Microsoft simply didn't remember (or care) to enable ATR when they issued OfficeX.

Oh, are you referring to fonts that are grouped by family when you say "Adobe Type Reunion?" I don't think Type Reunion is made for OS X -- although the functionality of it may be implemented in some applications... is this what you're experiencing? Kind of like saying "Xerox" to mean photocopy?

...or do you have an actual Type Reunion application/extension on your system?

I do have Adobe Type Reunion (latest version) installed, and it works just fine with EVERYTHING EXCEPT WORD-X. Since I work with many fonts in several suitcases (using SuitcaseX1) "folding up" those long font menus is essential. I think Microsoft just dropped the ball because older versions of WORD recognize ATR consistently.

I'm still not following you -- I searched Adobe's site up and down, and failed to find a version of Adobe Type Reunion that runs under OS X. The latest version they offer was released back in the days of OS 8.1.

Perhaps you're running Adobe Type Reunion in Classic mode for some applications that run under OS 9, not OS X. In that case, no, Type Reunion will not work under Word X, because Type Reunion only affects applications that run along with it in the Classic environment... is this what you're saying?
