On setup did you remember to check "Enable Authentication Manager"? If you didn't you need enable it and then change all windows users passwords. This creates the equivalent encryption files that windows requires.

No. The server will not do this. All of the Samba Code that does this is only installed on the server. The implementation of Samba on the client will not allow SMB clients to connect to it. It only allows for 10.1 clients to connect to PC's. You will need Dave or Sharity.
