Why slooooow sleep on powerbook G4 1ghz/10.2.8?

I fixed it! Ended up being one of several automatic login processes.I installed iclock, system optimizer and something else and one of them was the culprit. Deleted them and now it's back to normal....so simple yet such a pain. Thanks for all your suggestions though - really appreciate it!

Why slooooow sleep on powerbook G4 1ghz/10.2.8?

I initially wrote 10-15 seconds to sleep. It's more like 20-30 secs though. Anyway, I turned off appletalk but there is no difference. I have 512mb ram usually find that it's sufficient for my needs. But of course, more is better with ram. thanks....

Why slooooow sleep on powerbook G4 1ghz/10.2.8?

Thanks for trying to help me out guys. I don't have any other OS, except VPC with windows 2000 which I rarely run. I deleted macos 9 too. My friend lent me his copy (he's a developer and I've already ordered it for Oct 24) of panther and I installed that yesterday with archive and install...

Why slooooow sleep on powerbook G4 1ghz/10.2.8?

For the past few weeks, my powerbook has taken about 10-15 seconds to go to sleep once I've selected sleep mode. It seems to have coincided with my upgrade to 10.2.8, but I'm not 100% sure. I've reparied permissions, zapped everything that can be zapped and still the proplem persists. Any...

kernel panic after sleep - pls help

Well, I initially thought it had to do with things being plugged in - mainly USB. But it's happened several times now without anything plugged in. As I'm typing now I realize that I might have put it to sleep with devices, unplugged them and then woken it up without the devices. I'll check if it...

kernel panic after sleep - pls help

I'm running 10.2.4 on a powerbook G4 800mhz/512mbram. For the past few months I've been having occasional problems with kernel panics when I wake it up from sleep. Recently it seems more frequently. I have no idea what it is and am not very savvy with unix systems so was wondering if anybody...

    Font Corruption in Word????

For some time now I've had trouble choosing fonts in word. For example, when I choose times new roman, I get verdana or some other font and vice versa. I basically have to go through all the different fonts to find what I want. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks! PD

Best (free?) way to play VCDs in Jaguar?

Unfortunately I don't think it is a hardware problem. The CD goes in, spins for a while as though the computer is trying to read it and then, when not recognized, it spits it out.... Is there something with the formatting of VCDs that could cause trouble with Jaguar perhaps?

Best (free?) way to play VCDs in Jaguar?

Thanks. Well, I tried it and discovered something even more terrible! I managed to get a couple of my vcds to play with it, but most of them will not even be recognized by my powerbook and are automatically spit out within a minute or so! Any idea what that could be? they worked perfectly...

Best (free?) way to play VCDs in Jaguar?

I have some older VCDs that I'd like to be able to play. MacOs X can't play vcds apparently. What is the best, preferably free, solution to play vcds in Jaguar? And, since I'm at it, why on earth wouldn't apple include support for vcd when all of Asia is using it!????? Thanks! PD

    Fixed powerbook sleep delay issue

My powerbook G4 550/512 was taking 25-30 seconds from the time I chose sleep in the menu to when the LCD went dark. Very annoying. I finally managed to narrow the problem down to Norton Utilities 7 and, probably, its filesaver utilitiy. Removed all parts of Norton, restarted and now my powerbook...
