Howdy,
Does anyone know a shell command which I can issue to my iMac at home which I have SSH'd to from my work PC, which will activate my airport card?
I know it would be simple just to leave it on but for security issues I don't.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same thing happen to me after I upgraded to 10.2.1.
However, all subsequent reboots were much faster. I guess immediately after the upgrade - first reboot after - the Operating System is doing something which it doesn't subsequently do.
Basically you did the same thing Broadband Optimizer does, except you did it via command line whereas BBO does it via GUI!
Why didn't the one parameter change from 1 to 0? Did you get an error message? the use of sudo should allow you to change anything.
;)
Hi all,
Hopefully the following info will help some of you solve the random kernel panics and system freezes you've been experiencing after installing Jaguar. I had the same problem, which was getting on my nerves truth be told, but I'm pretty sure I've solved them. This may not help those...
I've installed Jaguar on my 9600/G3-400MHz with 304MB RAM. It certainly is not a speed daemon but it is quite usable. I use it all the time at work, surrounded by Windblows machines that I am. It does the job which is all I can ask.
:)
I use an old-arsed 9600 at work which has been upgraded with a Sonnet G3 400MHz/1Mb
card.
I've recently installed Jaguar on it, after running OSX since it's been out. Although it doesn't break the sound barrier I find it quite useful and productive.
Granted, the 9600 has 308MB RAM and a few...
It should be on one of the Software Restore CD's which came with your eMac. I believe you might have to restore ALL the software which came preloaded on the eMac but if you look through each CD you might find an installer just for
World Book.
Hope this helps.
:)
Ed Spruiell,
I couldn't agree more. I basically refrained from calling Norton Utilities a piece of crap but it does leave a lot to be desired at times.
Example: I often run Disk Utility in Jaguar to check on various drives. More often than not it reports no problems at all. Lo and behold...
DMCrimson - If that's the case then TTP is either not properly defragging free space or files or Norton Utilities is lying or misrepresenting the fragmentation levels of the disk. TTP is supposed to defragment both, ala the developers who wrote the app. If Norton's SpeedDisk is reporting...
To whomever said that TTP and PlusOptiizer don't defrag. files is incorrect. Actually, totally incorrect. Both products, and yes SpeedDisk too, defrag. files and free space.
There are two types of fragmentation on a disk. This happens on any disk, on any platform, running any OS. The first...
Hi.
DiskWarrior does NOT optiomize your disk.
It only optimizes your directories.
If you want to optimize your drive you need either TechTool Pro or Norton Utilities' SpeedDisk.
The latter is broken under Jaguar and the former only runs under OS 9.x.x and NOT under classic mode.
You may say Balderdash but have you ever tried running it, efficiently,
on such an iMac.
Also, the speed improvements with Jaguar will not be as evident on an iMac 266 because it's video card is not supported by Jaguar for the off-loading
of 2D/3D graphic manipulations onto the card. This...
