I'm not sure if this will work with a desktop, but it does work with my iBook (I think it was a new feature in one of the recent OS updates). If you turn down (or mute) the volume before turning it off, the beep will be quieter (or off) when you start it up the next time. Or you can press the...
I have this weird issue with Safari (1.3 on OS X 10.3.9). It has been around for a while (since the previous version at least). Basically, sometimes when I click a link or type an URL in, it gives the "Can't connect to the server" error straight away (no delay whatsoever). If I click again it...
It's worth pointing out that if you're familiar with the command line (os x) you can just use a zip file and split it.
Use the "make archive" command in the finder followed by:
split -b xm
where x is the size in megabytes you want each chunk to be.
Then on the other end they can use...
You don't have to put in the CD to view the cinematics - if you just copy the movie file into your Diablo II folder, it'll find and play them from there. You should be able to play from a Disk image... Did you make a CD/DVD Master type image? (.cdr) I did that and it worked (then again, it was...
Try installing via fink. Either the binaries:
sudo apt-get install freeciv
or from source:
fink install freeciv
And it worked fine for me :) (just make sure if you're playing multiplayer that you're all using the same version).
Freeciv is a free, open-source multiplayer game based on Civilisation - and it works on mac/pc/linux. Just make sure they're all running the same version. The mac one can be installed via Fink.
I'd recommend mldonkey - it's an edonkey client with plugins for Overnet, Bittorrent, Gnutella2, Soulseek, Kazaa, direct connect and Opennap. And it's available for OS X, Linux, and Windows I believe.
Try using VLC (do a search on VersionTracker).
It's not a firmware hack - it's the mac port of the Linux DVD player. It simply reads the DVD as a UDF disk and decrypts it on the fly. The quality isn't quite as good as the Apple DVD player, but it works fine.
I'd guess if you just made a sparse image that's really big (say 2 gigs or whatever) then it could grow as much as it needed. But like I said, any files you store on it are going to get fragmented quite quickly.
man hdiutil for more details.
I think the idea behind a sparse image is that it auto-expands up to the size of the disk you create.
Example: If you create a regular 100 Mb disk image, it uses 100 Mb of your hard disk even if that disk image is empty. With a sparse image, if your 100 Mb disk image has only 5 Mb of stuff...
It's the picture in the addressbook - I gave a friend of mine (in my address book) a picture, and when he sends me an email that picture shows up in it.
Did you close and reopen the xterm window before trying it? Or typing rehash? If you've just installed something you need to do "rehash" to make it update the list of apps in its path..
Even using the built-in firewall (10.2) I've got open ports when I scan 127.0.0.1, and they're nothing to worry about. Mostly they're web interfaces for configuring things like CUPS. The firewall specifically allows loopback traffic, but would block it from outside. If you've got a hardware...
