Your bandwidth problem is probably due to the USB 1.1 of the Powermac. The upload limit is 1.5 MB/s for USB 1.1 Also, the Western Digital external drive is for USB 2.0

Have you tried reseating the card?

Did you use software update or downloaded it separately? Have you updated QuickTime as well?

Are there 2 separate machines or is the iMac the G4 in question? Also, are you connecting wireless or hardwired and what router are you using?

Can you do a get info on the drive and see what format it is now?

If you have some apps that won't open, that maybe corrupt, you can transfer known working apps from the Macbook to the iMac. As far as the Internet connect... If it's not broke, don't fix it... ;)
