Thanks for the reply Inx. I actually manually went through all the files and changed permissions so that I have access (changed from "no access" to "read and write") so I don't know if I can find any locked out files or folders anymore. Short of doing that in Terminal, what else would you suggest?
Here's the story- I inherited a 3+ year old MacBook (2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM) that was working fine until I dropped it! After that, it was very slow to start up and wouldn't open some applications, so I bought a new hard drive and reinstalled the OS and now it's back on its proverbial feet...
I think I should mention that this G4 originally came with OS9 and was upgraded to Jaguar, then Panther then Tiger over the last few years. So it is capable of running OS9.
I have a Quicksilver G4 that is running 10.4 and I need to replace the OS with OS9 and I'm trying to a clean install (this computer is running a piece of equipment that needs software that only runs in OS9 and running it in classic mode won't work). I'm trying to boot from the OS9 CD but the...
My coworker inherited a white MacBook 2Ghz with 1GB Ram that was running Tiger. We cleared out the whole hard drive to eliminate the previous user's data, installed Windows XP using bootcamp on one partition and upgraded on the other partition to Leopard (and did all the appropriate software...
hey I have another question. I want to Dual-boot another MacBook (aside from the one mentioned in the original post). Can I use WinClone, firewire the two computers together and just clone another partition onto the second MacBook with out having to go through the trouble of installing all the...
I've cloned lots of hard drives with out any problems in the past using Carbon Copy Cloner (wonderful piece of software!). Now I want to clone a dual-booted (XP/10.5) hard drive. I've never done one of these before - any advice? I found one utility that looks like it might work (and looks a lot...
If you have another computer handy with a DVD drive you could always set up the iMac in Target Disk mode to the other computer and then install Tiger that way. I would take the DVDs to the Apple store and pop them in to one of their computers to see if they are readable. Apple will sell you CDs...
Just reinstall the OS, but before you go ahead and do the install, run disk utility from the install disk and either erase or re-partition the hard drive. In my experience, that has usually done the trick.
Also, I don't know if you've actually contacted the program that you wish to donate the...
This might be a major coincidence, but I updated from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 last week on my 15" Titanium, and ever since my battery has only had about 30 minutes of life left in it. In addition, the battery life indicator is totally off: when just running off of battery power (fully charged at 99%)...
Does anybody know the reason for the insulator sheet on the hard drive on the powerbooks (I'm specifically referring to the Al. PB, but I've seen it on the Titanium PBs). I'm replacing a hard drive, so I want to make sure I don't leave out an important part. Thanks!
I tried to update a G3 Pismo Powerbook with 10.4.6 (already running 10.4.5) and the install failed. Nothing worked after that, so I tried restarting and got the Universal No Symbol where the Apple icon normally is on the grey startup screen, and now the computer won't start at all. I tried...
