The first three places to check are all in System Preferences. In Date and Time/Network make sure 'Use Network Time Server' isn't checked. In QuickTime/Update make sure that 'Check for updates automatically' isn't checked. In Software Update make sure that 'Update automatically' isn't checked...

No 9 on mine... I keep an old 8 gig around that still has 9.2.2 on it, and I can stick it back in the tower if I have to... but I haven't had to since Q3A and DII:LOD have been ported. 9 was then. X is now.

I'd suggest Coast-to-Coast for the best price/support for memory purchase... they will make sure that your memory is compliant with newer firmware, or Crucial Memory for better (ie. CL2 = more expensive than CL3, but is slightly faster) memory. PriceWatch is good if you know exactly what...
