    Dhcp

DHCP serves up IP addresses for new computers on your network (if you do not hardcode them). This is usually handled by your router, although Mac server does have a DHCP server. A Name Server is the computer that handles DNS. Again, Mac server has a DNS server you can activate. Usually, your...

I had a similar problem, recently w. my rack mount G4 xserve. It started with the server just randomly freezing. I decided to re-build the server on another disk. While I copied files off the old disk I noticed that the original system disk kept disappearing from the server (randomly). It...

Mobile Account from a 10.5 server to 10.6 clients

My X-Serve is the original G4 XServe so I can't upgrade it from 10.5 to Snow Leopard (10.6). The new laptop is 10.6. I can't seem to use mobile accounts with the laptop. Any ideas on a solution short of buying a brand new server? Thanks in advance.

Setting up DNS as a Secondary zone

You might try Lynda.com. At $25 per month gives you access to their educational media. They have a nice section on 10.5 Server. When your done be sure to un-subscribe - or they will keep dinging you $25 per month... I have not $$ interest in lynda.com; I am just an occasional customer.

iCal- sharing & viewing on home network

If your have the standard Mac OS (not the server), your best hope would be the publish/subscribe model. You can publish your calendar (.ics) to a publicly accessible space and subscribe to it then like a feed.
