G4 Powerbook get "stuck" on boot up!! Help!

I assume you forgot to Repair Permissions before installing the update? I would try running DiskWarrior first. That usually sorts out minor problems. If you have any important files, back them up first!

iphoto won't load photos from library

Stop right there! Have you got your entire photo library copied onto DVD? Or a completely separate copy (untouchable) on an external drive? If not, please create one before altering anything. iPhoto can't find your library because you are pointing it at the wrong directory. I found the easiest...

TypeIt4Me Not free but I couldn't do without it. Also EmailCleaner, More Photo Libs, Join Together (audio book files in iTunes), Claris Home Page (well it's not sold any more so it must be free) and Claris Emailer (ditto).

    DVDs locking up.

You've omitted the history of the fault and what you've done to try to fix it so I'll suggest the obvious first: Repair Permissions. My G4 tower doesn't give problems with bought or burned DVDs so I can assure you it's not "normal".

?How? Help me create a simple unattended autodialer.

You don't need "cron". iCal will happily run a script for you. You can set an "alarm" for specific times every day.

Cloning OSX to new drive using Prosoft Data Backup?

Thanks for the replies. The Hard Drive arrived this morning (amazingly fast from DABS) so I installed it, partitioned it into two and launched Prosoft "Data Backup" (since my son already bought it for me as a Xmas present). There was an option for "clone" so I selected that and it copied the...

Cloning OSX to new drive using Prosoft Data Backup?

I have a G4 tower with 1GB memory, OS10.4.8 and 3 Hard Drives. One is a 120GB with two partitions. OSX is on one and it's GETTING FULL. I've used Prosoft "Drive Genius" to juggle the partition sizes but I'm still left with only a few GB of free space for OSX and no room to install more...

Buying a used iPod from someone...

Ah, I assumed you were asking about connectivity. Just use iTunes to reformat it. It will be fine. (I bought one last week and did that).

adding / updating files on ipod takes FOREVER

I bought a used iPod that did this. It was formatted for Windows. Is that a possibility? Another possibility - if it's a USB2 connection - is that you've plugged it into a USB port. And, final thought - the connecting lead may be faulty.

How to move a podcast into the normal iTunes music library?

One thing you could do is to use the "Make Bookmarkable" script to change its apparent file type to .m4b. That will make it jump into the "Audiobooks" Library folder where it will be safe. http://www.podcaststingers.com

Can't get rid of audiobook tracks

I'm glad to be of help. :) In case it's of further help, I took screen shots and wrote a "tutorial" on how to load audiobook tracks off CD into iTunes, convert them to m4b (bookmarkable) and combine them into a single track with "chapter" markers that your iPod will jump to when prodded. See...
