If you have Palm, pull it off of its cradle while Hot Syncing.

Have you tried logging in from a different user account and see if it works from there?

Have you tried playing it with VLC? http://www.videolan.org You could also try the "Play Video_TS Folder" option in DVD Player and choose the Video_TS folder on the disc.

AVI (DivX) plays great for me in VLC. No need to "Doctor" or "Validate" the files.

Sounds like the exact problem I had except it just happened randomly with 10.2.2. Luckily I installed X on a separate drive, copied over all my stuff from the other drive, wiped it, and then reinstalled X. I tried everything just as you have and this was my last resort.

This is probably a Rev 1 B&W which has HD corruption issues with slave drives. Even non OEM drives set as master on Rev 1 mobos have corruption issues. You also said that the HD was recognized in 9 but not X. This may be a dumb question but, are you sure that the drive is in HFS+ format; not...

Icon, I had a similar problem to yours when I was running 10.1.x. There was a .kext floating around that solved it. Do a search for PPP connection issues on this site and it should take you to some different threads that discuss the problem and have a link to the .kext.
