well I have tried eudora and it has quit on me too but I am beginning to see where the root of my problem is. Both eudora and mail putz out when retrieving mail. Since mail retrieves on startup that explains why it quits so fast. Eudora waits for the get mail command and so the quit is...
I have been have lots of different problems with mail.app and I would love to use a different mail suite. Is there any acceptable mail apps out there that can compare to claris emailer or close to it??? And cany anyone give some pointers on how to use the unix mail programs so I can have that...
Thanks JOSH but the ibook will not be helping the situation at all. My finder is still bugging out on me so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to help out.

Now it seems that everything is working except for the finder. After login and the finder starts up there seems to be a quirk because the finder will load up to the point where you can see the background but will then reload. It's like a never ending cycle... in fact it's doing it right now...
after the update I have run into some problems:
itunes wont load because of a draw sprocket problem.
and omniweb and mail only bounce once when clicked and that's all that happens with them.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

well this time i have gotten some results from the ./configure command but when I try to do make I get this

The process you describe seems easy enough but when I type that with the package name (and I have no idea what the package name is so I used the folder name) I got this
[localhost:~] lucianr% gnutar xzvf {irc2.10.3l}.tar.gz
tar (child): Cannot open archive irc2.10.3l.tar.gz: No such file or...
I have just downloaded an uncompiled version of irc but I'm not exactly sure how to myself. the folder that it is in is called irc2.10.3l so I'm not sure what the hell to do. anyone wishing to break this process down into edible portions would be very appreciated.

How do I get explorer and mail to work? I suspect there is a problem with my tcp/ip settings but with os9 I have tcp/ip set to get ip from the server but there is no option for that in X.
