What Happened To My Photo Stream?

I'm back. The good news is, the slideshow has resumed on my AppleTV. The bad news is, I didn't do anything.

What Happened To My Photo Stream?

In iPhoto / Preferences / iCloud, all the boxes are checked. All recent photos are in iPhoto on the iMac. What else should I look at?

What Happened To My Photo Stream?

Recently, while on the road with cruddy internet, I told my iPad to stop trying to backup to iCloud. When I got home, I connected it to my iMac via iPhoto, copied all my new photos and deleted them from the iPad. Shortly after that, I noticed that my AppleTV was no longer running a slideshow...

    Re-install App Store purchases.

When will I ever learn? I restarted to Recovery, ran DU to repair the system disk and permissions, restarted, and ... drumroll ... all is OK again. The error messages are gone and the apps are reinstalling.

    Re-install App Store purchases.

I tried to open Pages this morning and it refused, saying it can't be opened while it's updating. Huh? So I opened the App Store and, sure enough, on the purchases page it shows on the Pages line in red An error has occurred. Keynote too. The button on the right says "Installed" and is...

Upgrading in Parallels from Windows XP to 8

I have been running XP in Parallels for several years. In January I tried to upgrade to Windows 8. The installation failed, Microsoft tech support couldn't figure out why, so they refunded my money and I forgot about it. Two weeks ago, I tried again and it failed again. Again, tech support...

Address via IP: Safari vs Chrome

Nevermind. The real address is http://1.2.3.4:80. I suppose Safari remembered this from long ago, but Chrome is sort of new. I recently made Chrome my default browser because Safari got worse (for me) daily.

Address via IP: Safari vs Chrome

I have been using Safari to access my router's web page via an address something like http://1.2.3.4. When I use Chrome, it behaves like a Google search and shows me a list of possibly related external sites. Does anyone know how to make chrome stay on the local network?

Spinning Beach Ball in Finder every few minutes ?!

Open the Activity Monitor in Applications / Utilities and watch %CPU and Memory when the beachball spins. This may give you a hint as to the culprit. I recently noticed a CPU hog on my machine - Google Drive! I killed it off and the load is much lower.

How does "audit" get turned on?

I went there via Terminal after "sudo bash". As for "ditto", does Time Machine use it? TM did not report any problems during that period. For other reasons, I had to restart this morning, so I took the opportunity to boot to recovery and repair my startup disk and permissions. I did not see...

How does "audit" get turned on?

This morning I found an alert from SuperDuper! that last night's backup had failed. The logs didn't reveal much info, so I ran it again manually - and it failed again in exactly the same way. Comparing logs, both backups died trying to copy the same file from /var/audit/. I deleted the...

Mavericks is a major - well, rather large - disappointment.

I surrender. I just imported my Safari info into Chrome and shut down the former. I do not have the patience to force-quit it six times a day when there's an alternative that behaves and is faster.

    Time Machine backups

I'm not sure I follow. To Time Machine, your database is one, single file. You can restore it in its entirety - that's it. If you're looking for finer control to get at items inside the database, I believe you will have to look for separate MySQL tools - or roll your own.

    Macbook pro won't boot.

Nico, the laptop may be reparable - take it to a real technician. If you want to replace something, I suggest you start with your house mate.

    CAMonitorBackgrounder

I forgot to mention how I found that mystery item. In System preferences / Users & Groups / Login Items, right click on an item to bring up a context menu of one selection: Show in Finder. I discovered this purely by accident.

    CAMonitorBackgrounder

I saw that WhatPulse place. It felt kind of creepy to me. I discovered what CAMonitorBackgrounder is, and it's benign. It's a helper and/or part of the system preference pane for ChronoAgent from Econ Technologies. Matched with their iPad app InterConneX, it provides an easy way to move...

    CAMonitorBackgrounder

Does anyone know what this thing is? It's in my list of login items. A quick Google search didn't find anything helpful.

Mavericks is a major - well, rather large - disappointment.

Since then, I have upgraded to 10.9.2. Same comment applies. But I have made one change that has resulted in a significant improvement in Safari's performance. I now use Chrome for Facebook - nothing else - and Safari for everything else. Since that change, I have not had to restart Safari...

MacBook Pro on 10.9.2. SMC Errors.

SMC is System Management Controller. You may need to reset it. Here's a link to some Apple info on this subject.
