    Good script language to learn?

If you want to get into scripting, I'd recommend considering learning all of the following: sed, awk, bash, perl / python. Reason being: I've listed them (if memory serves) from least complex to most complex, whereby perl and python are on a par, really. If you're going to be working with *nix...

    Anyone using VPC on a 12"PB (867)?

That's a good tip, Zammy-Sam. I will wait - there's no burning need right now (most things I can do without windows specific sw, its just that the company I work for has chosen CM Synergy as there revision control system, damn them, and I haven't found an OS X client for that yet). Syphon...

    Anyone using VPC on a 12"PB (867)?

Hey y'all, I'm considering getting Virtual PC 6.1 for my 12"PB so that I can run some of the Windows-Only software used in the company I'm currently working for. Its either that or buy a WinTel notebook (yeuch). But in one review I read recently it said that VPC 6.1 performs really badly...

    GIMP 2.0 is out there!

Small update for those as are interested: I've upgraded (nice!) and it now works (nicer!) ... and I must say, that I think the Gimp.app packaging of The Gimp is a great idea! Well done that man! ;) C

Service -> Send File / Problem

Cool - I'll give that a go when I have a moment :) I haven't really ever gotten into the whole drag thing, because I tend to use the keyboard and shortcuts more than anything else - hence I tend to go via the menus because those are generally accessible via keyboard. I hope I can find out...

Service -> Send File / Problem

Hey there, After just having upgraded to Panther, I was very disappointed to find that one of my favorite features is now faulty ... from Finder, go to the Finder menu, then Services, then Mail, then Send File. In Jaguar, this opened Mail, then popped open a new message and adds the file as...

    Panther + PB12" + More fan?

Shame - that link came back with an 'Unable to find the page you requested'. I'll have a dig on version tracker myself :) Well - if there's no perceived increase in duration, I may as well leave it on Highest :);) Thanks for the infos Zammy-Sam :):) C

    Panther + PB12" + More fan?

And one more thing: Does auto in Energy Saver really dynamically set the CPU speed? I am very much under the impression that this isn't possible in the current generation of G4s because of the lack of a technology similar to SpeedStep et al. A new generation of G4s is being prepped which *do*...

    eMailing iCal events problem

    eMailing iCal events problem

Hey there, I did a quick search on the forums, but to no avail. My problem is this: if I eMail an event (appointment) from my iCal to my wife, and then she double clicks on it, iCal *does* pop open, but then fails to add the event to her calendar. I've also tried it the other way around and...

    port problems

ftpd is the FTP daemon program (but you probably knew that). There should be a way to configure it to use a different port ... by default it uses 21 (a 'well known port' as they're called). Traditionally in Unix all configuration is done in files under the /etc directory, however Mac OS X uses...

    port problems

its the firewall built into OS X. (IP FireWall). Taken from the FreeBSD system Darwin is based on. The stuff you can specify in the System Prefs is only a small subset of what the firewall is actually capable of. Check out the man pages on how to check the entries for the firewall, activate it...

    AirPort and non-tcp/udp protocols

By opening the ports, you're effectively forwarding them if you're using a router :) Just depends on the terminology. Also if you say you opened UPD 500, that means you've specified the protocol. Unfortunately this is impossible with the airport. You only specify the port number. So - I'm left...

    GIMP 2.0 is out there!

Yup - got the Apple X11.app ... I know that Gimp will run per sè ... but I'm specifically trying to run Gimp.app, which I haven't done before ... it does start up X11.app, but then the Gimp.app crashes. But I don't want to use fink (because of conflicts with some other OSS I've got installed)...

Doesn't ipfw allow you to set up port redirects? I kinda remember reading something along those lines in the man pages ... C
