    Hardware Requirements for 10.4

I can't really say, that last post is the system requirements straight out of the Read Me for the Tiger WWDC install DVD. The DVD requirement is the only one that might change between now and early 2005. I don't see Apple giving leverage beyond that.

    Hardware Requirements for 10.4

Yeah, I did miss a couple of things... :) You must have a Macintosh computer with • a PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor • a DVD drive • built-in FireWire • at least 128 MB of RAM • a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer...

    Hardware Requirements for 10.4

Here is what I say the requirements will be: G3/G4/G5 processor DVD drive (Yes, you heard me) Built-in Firewire 128MB RAM Go ahead and flame, I am almost willing to bet good money on this one :) Note: These are likely to be 'artificial' requirements. The video drivers/etc still exist...

    10.4 Features!

To be honest, I never liked Path Finder too much, a lot of the time it just felt too busy and still has problems achieving the Spatial Finder described in the article you linked (the last time I used it). However, I personally think that the whole GUI concept can use a re-design. Treating...

    Os X Trojan

I think what it should really be doing is a simple scan when you do an action which *COULD* launch code in the Finder (where the vulnerability really lies) when opening a file, and if it is executable code with an extension that isn't .app (Extension-less apps could be assumed fine for CFM...

When are Apple going to fix this window focus bug

Okay, that is normal behavior. In MacOS, when you click a window, you only bring that window into focus. It has been like this for ages. Floating windows are the exception, coming into focus when one of the app's windows is in focus. (Adobe/Macromedia apps make heavy use of floating windows)...

When are Apple going to fix this window focus bug

Looking at the image, this is pretty darn possible to happen, especially with Open/Save dialogs. However, I wonder what you did to bring the Finder windows forward. Could you give more information as to what you did that causes this? If this is a case of windows magically popping forward, then...

    Passwords on OSX

Passwords on OS X act very much like they did on OS 9. The keychain is the nice old throwback from OS 9 which was a great thing to keep. Yes, OS X has things laid out differently, and while you say it has no documentation (I am assuming you mean documentation on paper), the help menu is...

Apple told they can't claim the G5 is the fastest

Well, let's just hope SJ keeps his word this WWDC and shows off 3Ghz machines. Rest assured, there won't be two releases... Panther already has a 64-bit version of the memory management code for the G5s included. They won't need to split 10.4 into two releases for any reason (everything has...

Apple told they can't claim the G5 is the fastest

Well, Apple doesn't need to offer 2 different versions to get the speed boosts for the G5. The only release of OS X that was different for the G4 and G5 was 10.2.8 when the G5 first came out. It is pretty easy to create something similar to FAT binaries in OS X... the format for software...

Money April 2004: Why iPod Can't Save Apple

There would have to be some sacrifices to achieve that... such as no Gigabit ethernet, the video card would be older hardware, the FW/USB would be semi-crippled compared to current machines. (Apple's machines actually assign a bus to each port for USB, and might do the same for Firewire) And the...

Money April 2004: Why iPod Can't Save Apple

There is cost, but that isn't the total calculation of market share. Market share is based on yearly sales. Even if Apple is selling more and more units per year, if the overall units sold per year increases faster than Apple's increases, then the market share for Apple shrinks. Plus, there are...

OS X :: how secure art thou?

Actually, I remember MS touting those ports as a feature of Windows XP before it was released... a method that they could help you when you had problems. The backlash from the tech community that heard about it was enough to make them quiet down and not tout it as a feature, but they never...
