Yea space dock work by hiding sets of apps though. Virtual desktops are capable of having several windows from the same app active in several desktops, changeable desktop pictures for each etc.... Space app is nice but doesn't quite have the same function.

You should consider using Virtual Hosts in apache. I have a machine running three or four sites. The DNS names for each of them resolve to the same IP address. Apache directs them to the correct root based on the name entered in the browser. No need to run multiple IP addresses at all.

I am using VNC over an airport network with fixed ip addresses assigned to the computers, and having great success. No port mapping or extra configuration involved.
