best deal for g4 iMac RAM?

I have Crucial ram (512mb) in my iMac flat-panel and it works fine. Their prices are pretty reasonable too onfe you factor in their free shipping (fast too, I got my last order in a day). I have heard that Crucial (actually Micron) is Apple's OEM memory supplier but I can't confirm it...

Slow startup (2:30 minutes too much) after installing 10.1.5

Well before I did anything else I'd boot into OS9 and run Disk First Aid (or Disk Doctor if you have it) just to make sure everything is ok on your hard drive, could be something got goofed up in the process of installing X.

Hang when wake from sleep (again)

Once again my G4 iMac is semi-hanging when waking from sleep. The GUI responds like normal, no problems, but no new apps can be launched (they bounce and bounce and finally end up in this "not responding" state) and existing apps can't do anything that touches the HD. I suspect that the HD is...

Problems with Epson Stylus Photo Printer in OSX

I had the same problem and on a whim I tried switching to Epson Premium Bright White paper and the problem went away. I think using cheap paper clogs the print heads.

Problems with Epson Stylus Photo Printer in OSX

Borderless printing does not currently work under OSX according to Epson. I have the same issue with my Stylus Photo 820. Epson customer service had no idea when or if that might change.

    basic graphics app

There used to be a very cool and not-too-complex image editing program for the NeXT. Kind of like Tiffany but without the layers and graphics professional add-ons but not as simple as AppleWorks and much more user-friendly than GraphicConverter. I used to use it to do graphics for my home page...

    imovie jumble

What exactly are you looking for? If it's more transitions or effects I suggest you consider one of the many iMovie plugin packs from companies like Virtix and Slick, perhaps that will make it possible for you to do what you want with iMovie...

After logging on from screen sleep, nothing works!

My flat-panel iMac has done this occasionally ever since I installed 10.1.5. It acts like some process has nearly 100% of the CPU and won't let anything else get a slice. I wonder if it may be related to network problems? I have not seen it reoccur since I installed the Networking update...

USB port crashes on wake from sleep

Sometimes if I am too quick to move the mouse when my flat-panel iMac wakes from sleep the mouse and keyboard (the mouse is plugged into the keyboard) will stop working. Switching the keyboard to another USB port will cause it to start working again but for the rest of that session the previous...

So...no one thinks they have a good printer for OS X?

I should note that the Epson Bright White paper I mentioned was not all that expensive (something like $9 for 500 sheets) and came with a $3 rebate to boot. I am sure any good paper would work fine but with the Epson paper so cheap I wouldn't bother with anything else. FYI Staples has the...

    Pro Mouse Issues

This is going to sound weird but you might try a new mouse pad. I notice that mine works best with a pad with a busy pattern (mine is a pizza) rather than a simple pattern or none at all.

    Annyoing renaming, also in Jaguar?

Of course there are very powerful UNIX tools to do file renaming from the command line. Works great when you have to rename hundreds of files.

So...no one thinks they have a good printer for OS X?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 and it works great with OSX. There is even a separate 12-page instruction manual on setting it up for OSX and OSX driver software is also on the CD. Printing is fantastic, much better than you would expect with a $100 printer. On high-quality mode I can get...

determining correct iMac LCD color setup

I have a new G4 iMac and I am not particularly happy with the default "LCD Display" color sync profile, it just looks too washed out for me. I've tried creating new profiles with both no gamma and a PC/TV gamma of 2.2 and they look better but still not quite true to life. Any graphics...

More than one version of 10.1.4

Looks like there is more than one version of 10.1.4 out there! My old CRT iMac shows the build number as "5Q125" while the new 800 mhz flat-panel I just bought shows it as "5R48", interesting! I've noticed one difference already, when I press the disk eject key a disk eject icon appears on...

    Mac OS X 10.1.5...

Mine is brand-new, just received on May 24th. Looks like there is more than one version of 10.1.4 out there! My old CRT iMac shows the build number as "5Q125" while the new one shows it as "5R48", interesting! Think I'll start a new thread about this...

    Mac OS X 10.1.5...

FYI the eject icon appears in 10.1.4 on my new flat-panel iMac so that's not a new feature for 10.1.5.

    Mac RAM

I always buy my memory from crucial.com. Their memory is top-notch and unlike other places they actually manufacture it (Crucial is the retail arm of Micron). I just picked up a 512mb PC133 SIMM for my G4 iMac for $186, not a bad price at all!

    Is Mail COCOA?

I don't think that was what the fellow was asking, I think he was asking what exactly "NeXTStep" and "Openstep" really were and what hardware they ran on. A short answer to your question: Back in 1986 Steve Jobs left Apple and created a new company, NeXT which built 68000-based computers...

    apple store in seattle

I'd say the odds of Apple putting a store in Tukwila are just about zero. I would expect that they would pick high-end high-traffic locations like Pacific Place or 6th Ave downtown or Bellevue Square for their stores. Tukwila and Southcenter don't match the demographics of the places they have...
