    Fink help needed!

I tried that, this is what I got: [Tim:~] timhuntley% fink install gimp sudo /sw/bin/fink install gimp Password: Information about 50 packages read in 2 seconds. Failed: no package found for specification 'gimp'! [Tim:~] timhuntley% :-\ Tim.

    Fink help needed!

I installed Xdarwin 1.2.0 (XFree86 4.3.0) and the latest Fink package last night. When I run Fink Commander, it only shows 50 packages, 36 installed. I *know* there's more than that. I can't even find GIMP in the list, which is why I installed it all. Help? Thanks, Tim.

    Stuck in a bad way...

Howdy. Went to install 9.1 on my 8.1 iMac last night. Without thinking I popped in the 9.1 CD, booted the machine, and immediately initialized my hard disk. Lo and behold, my Rev. A iMac needs a firmware update. However, the hard drive is blank so I can't run the firmware updater...

    Entourage and Exchange Server 5.5

I know that the Exchange Server update for Entourage "officially" supports Exchange Server 2000, but I am still running Exchange Server 5.5. I have downloaded and installed all the Office updates and configured Entourage for my Exchange Server 5.5, and it seems to work for basic mail...

    Mail.app Reply-To...

How can I set a permanent Reply-To address in Mail.app? I know I can do it on a mail-by-mail basis by entering the address into the Reply-To field, but that's a serious pain in the posterior. Thanks, Tim.

    Which X Server?

Well, I've been a Linux user for quite some time - although certainly more on the server than the desktop. You won't get any flames from me. :-) I'm actually asking as an OS X user - I'm looking for the most robust, speedy, and easy to use X11 server there is. My observations have matched...

    Fink and XDarwin?

Here's an odd one for you. Do Fink and XDarwin actually work together? I was running Apple's X11 server, but uninstalled it to give XDarwin a try. Now none of the Fink applications will install - most crash out with an "Unresolved Dependencies - X11" error. I removed Fink and reinstalled...

    Which X Server?

Which X server do those in the know prefer? There's Apple's new server, XDarwin, the X11 package from Fink, and I'm sure there's a few others. Which one is the best and most compatible? Thanks, Tim.

    The thrill is gone

Actually, they were on Windows. They are anything but now that I have moved over to OS X. Tim.

    Office Suite of Choice...

Hmm. I disagree completely. Microsoft is a software company. Apple is a hardware company. So far, it's looking like MS has the best office suite out there - why not run the best software on the best hardware and operating system? Maybe it's just me, but I also recently moved from a PC. I...

    Office Suite of Choice...

Here's some recent observations of mine regaring office suites - particularly the word processing components. I just created a two-page, table-intensive document (if you don't mind a bit of geekiness, the document is here - the missing borders on some of the cells is a result of PDF'ing the...

    Interesting Word/PDF issue, need advice...

Well, this is interesting. (And yes, before I get into this, I'll admit - I'm a gamer geek. The document I reference is a character sheet. Sue me. Heh.) Anyway, look at this file: http://www.domibia.com/dloads/tristatsheet.doc It's a Word:mac v.X file. The tables are all nicely...

    Office Suite of Choice...

I'm looking for some input here. I know this is really close to the thread about alternatives for Office:v. X, but I figured it was different enough to receive it's own thread. Currently I have Office: v.X, OpenOffice 1.0.3, and Appleworks 6 on my eMac. I'm looking to find out which of the...

New Keyboard And Mouse On G5

Mine didn't. But one of the first things I did was replace it with an ergonomic keyboard. Tim.

New Keyboard And Mouse On G5

So last night I'm watching TV and a Gateway commercial comes on. I think to myself, "you know, Apple needs to get their commercials on again." Sure 'nuff, about 15 minutes goes by, and here's this commercial from Apple advertising the G5. I tried to look as close as I could because of this...

New Keyboard And Mouse On G5

Oh, sure, there's probably better mice/trackballs out there, I'm not arguing that. But for a "stock" mouse, it is really nice and is way better than the MS Trackball Explorer. Tim.

    Dock Drawers?

Yeah, I've been playing with that. It's close, but not exactly what I'm looking for - it either opens up a new Finder window to that folder with a primary click, or displays a menu of the shortcuts with a secondary click. *shrug* If I can't find exactly (or reasonably close to) what I'm...

New Keyboard And Mouse On G5

Actually, I *like* the one-button mouse. I have an MS Trackball Explorer both at work and at home. The Apple Pro Mouse that came with my eMac is WAY more precise and smooth than the Trackball Explorer. I'm supposed to be using trackballs as I developed symptoms of CTS last year, but I use...

    Dock Drawers?

Howdy. One of the Linux/Unix window managers (I can't remember which one) features a somewhat OSX-like dock (actually, it's probably more like OS X features a very X11-like dock, but that's neither here nor there). In this dock, each of the icons are drawers that, when clicked, slide up (or...

    Apple Scripts Menu?

Ok, here's an interesting one (at least from my perspective). Being a relatively new user, I was browsing around my HDD, and found the /Applications/AppleScript folder. I was looking at some of the scripts in the /Applications/AppleScript/Example Scripts folder, and then found a...
