How can I restore USB devices?

Everyone - well, someone suggested using 10.2.4 's IOUSBFamily.kext file to replace the same file in 10.2.5 to solve a problem with Belkin hubs. I tried it, it failed, and now I can't get any USB kb/mouse to work. I replaced the old file with the 10.2.5 version (I am still running 10.2.5)...

10.2.5 won't stop crashing! What to do?

Ok, on the Apple board, some guy is suggesting the following: ----------------------------------- To solve this replace the file /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext with the one from 10.2.4 . No Kernel Panic so far. The USB Hub used is a...

10.2.5 won't stop crashing! What to do?

Ok, reading some posts on the offical apple discussion boards, some people are having the same problem. There may be an issue with certain usb devices and/or hubs under 10.2.5. I've unplugged my belkin hub and am waiting to see if it kernel panics again.. Eric

10.2.5 won't stop crashing! What to do?

I installed the 10.2.5 update smoothly (dual 450) - no problems. Now, however, the machine will not stay stable for more than about 5 minutes!! I get the grey-wash/you need to restart your computer (in several languages) image! What to do?? I don't have any hacks - hell the only thing...

    Screwed up default icons???!?

Hi Adam - Good suggestion, but that was one of the first things I tried - varying bit depth, resolution, and refresh rate. Maybe Apple has something against Mag ? :)

    Screwed up default icons???!?

holy COW!! I just switched to a crt monitor (from the flatscreen 15'' mag) and the PROBLEM WENT AWAY! What could possibly cause specific icons to change colors on a mag flatscreen, but not a crt, and leave the rest of the desktop and applications perfectly unaffected???

    Screwed up default icons???!?

well, unfortunately, aquafix didn't. But, I noticed something interesting. I downloaded candybar to change the trashcan icon to something else, and it actually changed to a purple-tinted variant of the icon I selected in candybar!!!!! What's up with this??? Is there some defaults write...

    Screwed up default icons???!?

ok, I fsck 'ed upon bootup as suggested, but I still get the whacked colors as shown in the above attachment. Funny thing is, the trash can appears fine until something is put in it, then it goes purple, and stays purple (empty or full)!!!

    Screwed up default icons???!?

Ok this is driving me crazy. Check out the attached screen capture showing a capture from sysprefs and one from the dock. I've done no icon modification/replacement. This is simply what I see now on the dock/sys prefs every boot up. I also get a whacked purple apple at logon too! (but don't know...

    icons.....changing!

Ok this is weird - running 10.2.2, and switched my display from my sony crt to a mag lcd and rebooted. No big deal. But now my trashcan is purple!! And some of my icons (particularly General, Dock, and Screen Effects) have wacked colors!! I've tried multiple reboots. What's going on? I...

    NSMailDelivery?

Hey everyone - Someone suggested I check out the messaging framework for sending simple smtp messages from cocoa. I added the framework fine, which includes an NSMailDelivery.h file. The interesting thing is I can't find a matching .m file to go with it! The bigger problem is that, while...

    Cocoa Poster..

Hi everyone - this is *slightly* off topic, but I have a question. Although I am learning OS X at a reasonable pace, my main background is in graphic design. I am considering putting together a poster listing all the cocoa classes, etc., and was just curious if there was a market for them...

Software Update is too determined to make you update something

It kinda seems to me that if you have "automatic checks" on, it should let you know that there are new versions of iTunes. If you don't want to see that, turn off the automatic checking and check manually, but don't blame the OS for informing you of what you've asked for - it doesn't know what...

Ok, OSX is great. Now - how can I "work" it?

Ok - Most of us agree that OS X is hot. We like its looks. We like it's functionality. We would probably also agree that there is anything but a flow of useful applications for it (right now). Sure, Omniweb has a great browser, Sharity has cross-platform network support, etc., but most of...

    Straight-up Minimize all?

Am I missing something, or is there no straight-up way to minimize all the windows on the screen so that I am just looking at the desktop? I like OSX alot, but dealing with window clutter certainly hasn't gotten any easier! Eric Doggett

    Programming those little docklets..

Ok I am seeing little doclet apps that people are working on.. My question is, using the development environment, how do you code those - I would guess they are cocoa only, but are their framework examples for interacting with the dock? Thanks, Eric Doggett

    Developers in DC/Northern VA area?

Hey everyone - I'm curious if there are any osx developers out there in the D.C./Northern VA area that might be interested in chatting about osx, possibly work on a project, maybe one day sell it (perhaps some utility/game)? I come from more of an artistic/musical background (although I do...
